Karna’s Counsel on Strategy toward the Pāṇḍavas
kṛṣṇāhetor anuprāptā devāḥ saṃdarśanārthinaḥ | bravītu no bhavān satyaṃ saṃdeho hṛdi no mahān ||
Vaiśampāyana said: 'These are indeed the gods who have come here for the sake of beholding Kṛṣṇa. Tell us the truth, sir, for a great doubt has arisen in our hearts concerning you.'
The verse highlights satya (truthfulness) as the proper response to communal uncertainty: when doubt arises, one should seek and speak the truth plainly, especially regarding matters connected with the divine.
The speaker identifies the visitors as devas who have arrived specifically to behold Kṛṣṇa, and urges the addressed person to state the truth because the onlookers have developed a strong suspicion or doubt.
