Dhṛṣṭadyumna’s Enumeration of Assembled Kṣatriyas
ततोडपि द्वादशे वर्षे स जज्ञे पुरुषर्षभ: । अश्मको नाम राजर्षि: पौदन्यं यो न्यवेशयत्,तदनन्तर बारहवें वर्षमें बालकका जन्म हुआ। वही पुरुषश्रेष्ठ राजर्षि अश्मकके नामसे प्रसिद्ध हुआ, जिन्होंने पौदन्य नामका नगर बसाया था
tato 'pi dvādaśe varṣe sa jajñe puruṣarṣabhaḥ | aśmako nāma rājarṣiḥ paudanyaṃ yo nyaveśayat |
Then, in the twelfth year, a child was born—an eminent man among men. He became renowned as the royal sage Aśmaka, the very one who founded and settled the city called Paudanya. The verse underscores the fruition of time and rightful lineage: a worthy ruler arises in due course and expresses kingship through constructive acts such as establishing a stable seat of governance.
गन्धर्व उवाच
A worthy ruler arises in due time and demonstrates dharmic kingship through constructive, stabilizing actions—here symbolized by founding and settling a city—linking personal excellence (puruṣarṣabha) with public responsibility (nyaveśayat).
The Gandharva narrates that in the twelfth year a child is born who becomes known as the royal sage Aśmaka, and he is credited with establishing the city named Paudanya.
