Mantras

Mantra 1

Hither, spanning both Worlds, thou rushest in thy greatness; ever anew thou art made glad by the dear hymn even now. Forth, O Lord, make manifest the homestead’s eager might; disclose the cattle’s cry for the Tawny One, for the Sun.

Mantra 2

Hither let the harnessed powers of men convey thee, eager, on the chariot, O Indra of tawny jaw. Drink, that of the honeyed draught set forth, rejoicing, thou mayest in the common feast enjoy the sacrifice, tenfold in its fullness.

Mantra 3

Thou hast drained the earlier pressings, O thou of tawny steeds; and now this pressing here is wholly thine. Be thou exhilarated with the honeyed Soma, O Indra; as Bull, in one unbroken course, wax strong within the belly.

Frequently Asked Questions

To bring Indra swiftly to the current Soma-offering, make him drink and rejoice, and thereby produce prosperity-signs such as cattle increase, household security, and victory.

The Sun functions as a witness and emblem of visible splendour—success is asked to be ‘made manifest’ publicly, under solar light, while Indra is the active giver of power and wealth.

Traditionally it belongs to Soma-liturgy, but later practice may substitute an appropriate offering (sweet drink/oblations) and keep the core intent: invite Indra, offer, and pray for strength, prosperity, and victory.
