The Sanctity of Gayā: Raibhya’s Encounter and Hymn to Viṣṇu
Gadādhara
tvayā punarmantravidā gayāyāṃ piṇḍapradānena balādimau ca | melāpitau tīrthapiṇḍapradāna-prabhāvato me narakāśritāv api || 7.19 ||

It reflects the Purāṇic portrayal of Gayā as a major tīrtha associated with ancestral rites (piṇḍa-pradāna), illustrating how pilgrimage geographies were integrated into ritual and memorial culture.
Gayā (गया), traditionally identified with the Gayā region in present-day Bihar, India, long noted in Sanskrit sources for śrāddha-related pilgrimage.
The verse foregrounds the cultural ethic of filial responsibility and remembrance of ancestors, presenting ritual giving at a tīrtha as a socially valued means of support and reconciliation across generations.
