It highlights that for certain deep karmic faults, mere external expiations and conventional ritual remedies may not fully remove bondage; Shaiva teaching emphasizes inner purification and the liberating grace of Pati (Shiva) beyond mechanical rites.
By implying the insufficiency of general rites alone, it points toward turning to Shiva as the supreme refuge—often approached through Saguna worship such as Linga-pūjā, stotra, and devotion—so that purification becomes transformative rather than merely procedural.
The verse mentions stotra and śāstra-based rites, deva-worship, and Pitṛ-karmas; in Shaiva practice, these are best joined with Shiva-focused devotion—regular recitation of Shiva stotras and japa of the Pañcākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") for inner cleansing.
