Account of the Birth/Origin of Vyāsa

दुर्लभं मानुषं जन्म ब्राह्मणत्वं विशेषतः । तत्रापि तापसत्वं च दुर्लभं मुनिसत्तम

durlabhaṃ mānuṣaṃ janma brāhmaṇatvaṃ viśeṣataḥ | tatrāpi tāpasatvaṃ ca durlabhaṃ munisattama

Kelahiran sebagai manusia sulit diperoleh, terlebih lagi kelahiran sebagai brāhmaṇa. Bahkan di antaranya pun, keadaan laku tapa sejati (tāpasatva) sangat jarang, wahai yang terbaik di antara para resi.
