Sukta 2.37
yám u pū́rvam áhuve tám idáṃ huve sá íd u havyó dadír yó nā́ma pátyate | adhvaryú-bhiḥ prá-sthitaṃ sómyaṃ mádhu potrā́t sómaṃ draviṇaḥ-daḥ píba ṛtú-bhiḥ ||
Soma rite emphasizing repeated invocation and Soma drinking from Potṛ’s purified portion
sovereignty (pati) as inner mastery, ṛta as rhythm of effective offering
Explicit in ṛtubhiḥ; also implied by officiant sequence (Adhvaryu prepares, Potṛ purifies).
‘nāma patyate’—true naming as a mode of accessing real powers.
Stabilization of substance (dadhi motif) from fluid delight; manifestation through purification and order.
Vedic functionalism leading toward Upaniṣadic insight: name/form as access points to forces of consciousness.
ṛtu emphasized
Curd = stabilized essence; seasons = cyclic readiness; purification = filtering of consciousness before enjoyment.
Persevering invocation + purification before enjoyment; stabilize gains.
Viśuddha (purification/truth in speech) supporting Anāhata (nourishment)
Cooling, purifying breath (śītalī/slow nasal) for 12 cycles before chanting; then sit and ‘drink’ the sweetness as a quiet aftertaste.
Clear, clean, quietly nourished.
Repeat the mantra for 9 or 27 days at a fixed time (ṛtu). Before each session, perform one purification act: straighten posture, lengthen exhale, and release one falsehood/self-excuse. Then receive joy as steadiness, not excitement.
Chant with Vedic accents per source; keep the repeated ‘huve’ phrases clearly parallel in pitch contour.
Maintain a slight lift on the calling verbs; settle the cadence on ‘ṛtubhiḥ’ as a closing law-note.
yam u: link smoothly without adding extra vowel breaks., ahuve/huve: aspirated h clear, not silent., potrāt: retroflex ṭ in potṛ; keep long ā in -rāt., pibā: clear long ā if present by sandhi/recitation style; otherwise piba with short a per pada.
Clean, restrained, purifying.
