Description of the Māhātmya of Gokarṇeśvara and Jaleśvara (Śaileśvara) in the Śleṣmātaka Forest
bhāgīrathī vegavatī kaluṣaṁ dahate nṛṇām || kīrtanād eva saṁśuddhe darśanād bhūtim āpsyati ||
Varāha (default, instructor voice in the Varāha–Pṛthivī dialogue framework)
It preserves a widely attested Purāṇic ideology of river sanctity, where verbal commemoration and visual encounter are treated as socially meaningful practices of purification.
Bhāgīrathī (commonly associated with the Gaṅgā tradition); the epithet vegavatī emphasizes its swift current.
It promotes self-purification through speech (kīrtana) and mindful encounter (darśana), framing ethical transformation as accessible and non-coercive.
