The Return of Naciketas from Yama’s Abode: Inquiry into Death, Karma, and Dharmic Release
jitātmānaḥ kathaṃ yānti kathaṃ gacchati pāpakṛt || yathāśrutaṃ yathādṛṣṭaṃ yathā caivāvadhāritam ||
Pṛthivī (default dialogue framework; inquirer voice)
It frames an ethical-eschatological inquiry typical of Purāṇic discourse, requesting knowledge grounded in received tradition (śruti-like hearing), testimony (seeing), and reasoned ascertainment.
No geographic location is identified in this verse.
Self-mastery (jita-ātman) is implicitly valorized, while wrongdoing (pāpa) is treated as leading to a different post-mortem trajectory.
