Varāha
Pilgrimage becomes efficacious when bodily purification (snāna), ancestral obligation (pitṛ-tarpaṇa), and devotional movement (parikramā) are integrated.
Begin yātrā with snāna and pitṛ-tarpaṇa; then circumambulate with mindful praise, attentive seeing, and humility (praṇāma).
At Viśrānti-tīrtha, bathe and perform pitṛ-tarpaṇa before undertaking parikramā with praise, darśana, and obeisance.
Proper pitṛ-tarpaṇa and tīrtha-snāna remove yātrā-śrama and yield tīrtha-phala; neglect implies diminished merit and unresolved pitṛ-ṛṇa.
Implicit: Viśrānti is later famed as a Yamunā ghāṭa associated with Kṛṣṇa’s līlā-rest; here it functions as tīrtha-vidhi within Mathurā-maṇḍala.
Varāha Purāṇa Mathurā-māhātmya: parikramā-krama and tīrtha-snāna prescriptions (adjacent verses)
It documents a standardized pilgrimage liturgy combining tīrtha-bathing, ancestral rites, and shrine-circumambulation—useful for reconstructing premodern ritual practice.
A tīrtha named Viśrānti (likely a local sacred bathing spot within the Mathurā pilgrimage circuit).
Pilgrimage is presented as disciplined and orderly: purification, remembrance of ancestors, and respectful bodily gestures (praise and prostration).
