Praise of the Sacred Geography of Mathurā
śrīvarāha uvāca || na vidyate ca pātāle nāntarikṣe na mānuṣe || samānaṃ mathurāyā hi priyaṃ mama vasundhare ||
Varāha
It is a canonical-style endorsement of Mathurā’s prominence, useful for studying how Purāṇic texts elevate specific cities within a cosmographic framework.
Mathurā is explicitly identified; in modern terms it corresponds to Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, India, a major historical urban and pilgrimage center.
The verse implicitly promotes cultural heritage valuation: certain places are framed as uniquely significant, encouraging preservation-minded attention to sacred landscapes.
