The Threefold Division by the Guṇas, the Deities’ Attainment of Worship, and the Opening of the Durjaya Episode
devā api nijaukāṁsi gatavantaḥ sanātanam | stuvantaḥ parameśo 'pi trividhaṁ bhāvam āsthitaḥ || 10.9 ||
Varāha (default dialogue framework; speaker not explicit in fragment)
It reflects a common Purāṇic narrative technique: after a major cosmic event, divine beings return to their respective abodes while the supreme deity transitions into a described mode or function, marking a shift in the episode’s phase.
No specific geographic location is named in this verse; it uses cosmological ‘abodes’ (okas) as a general, non-terrestrial setting.
The verse is primarily descriptive rather than prescriptive; its philosophical emphasis is on cosmic order and the deity’s capacity to assume different modes for sustaining narrative and cosmological balance.
