Having drawn in the air through iḍā and filled (it), with it abiding in the abdomen, one should meditate on Oṃkāra situated in the middle of the body, surrounded by a series of flames. Brahmā is said to be the inhalation (pūraka); Viṣṇu is called the retention (kumbhaka); exhalation (recaka) is declared to be Rudra—these are the deities of prāṇāyāma.
