One who knows the classification of categories (padārtha-vibhāga) understands the discernment of what ought and ought not to be done, like a householder who has mastered his household. He gradually abandons pride, egoism, envy, greed, and excessive delusion—even when they still remain outwardly—like a snake (casting off) its skin. With such a disposition, through service to scripture, the teacher, and the good, he properly comprehends the teaching together with its inner purport, completely.

Viveka (discrimination), vairāgya (dispassion), and purification of antaḥkaraṇa as preparation for brahmajñānaMahavakya: Indirect: purification and discrimination prepare for mahāvākya realization (identity of ātman and brahman).AtharvaChandas: Anuṣṭubh (śloka-style; post-Vedic metrical Sanskrit)
