The first stage arises, sweet with contentment and delight; it is like a sprout of immortality, with only a small interval since it has emerged from the ground. This indeed is renunciation whose end has been well-touched; it is the sole ground for the birth (of higher realization). Thereafter one should attain the second and the third stages. Here the third stage is excellent and all-pervading; in it a person becomes one whose construction of all intentions (saṅkalpas) has been entirely cast off. By practice of the three stages, when ignorance has come to destruction, those who have reached the fourth stage see equality everywhere. When steadiness in non-duality has come, and duality has gone to quiescence, those who have reached the fourth stage see the world as if a dream.
