This brief Triṣṭubh hymn invokes Mitra–Varuṇa at sunrise, praising their purified resolve and sovereign guardianship that moves through all the world’s paths. It asks the twin lords of ṛta to function as a “bridge” against falsehood and as safe passage across distress, culminating in a prayer for enduring well-being and protection.

Mantra 1
प्रति वां सूर उदिते सूक्तैर्मित्रं हुवे वरुणं पूतदक्षम् । ययोरसुर्यमक्षितं ज्येष्ठं विश्वस्य यामन्नाचिता जिगत्नु ॥
सूरज निकलते वक्त मैं अच्छे से बनाए गए शब्दों से तुम्हे बुलाता हूँ, मित्र और वरुण, जिनका मन साफ है। तुम्हारी बड़ी राज शक्ति कभी खत्म नहीं होती, सबसे पुरानी है, और सारी दुनिया में चलती है। तुम्हारे ज्ञान का दगर बहुत वाइड है, और तुम हमारे पास आ रहे हो।

ता हि देवानामसुरा तावर्या ता नः क्षितीः करतमूर्जयन्तीः । अश्याम मित्रावरुणा वयं वां द्यावा च यत्र पीपयन्नहा च ॥
मित्र और वरुण, तुम दोनों देवियों में सबसे बड़े हो। तुम दोनों बहुत ऊपरे हो। हमारे लिए ऐसे घर बना दो जहाँ ताकत बढ़ती रहे। मित्र और वरुण, हम तुम्हे पा लें। वहीं ले चलो जहाँ आसमान और दिन हमें बड़ा करता है।

ता भूरिपाशावनृतस्य सेतू दुरत्येतू रिपवे मर्त्याय । ऋतस्य मित्रावरुणा पथा वामपो न नावा दुरिता तरेम ॥
तुम दोनों के पास बहुत ताकत है। झूठ के सामने तुम पुल बन जाते हो। दुश्मन के लिए यह पास करना मुश्किल है। मित्र और वरुण, तुम्हारे रास्ते पर चल के हम अपनी मुश्किलों को पार कर लें। जैसे नाव से पानी पार करते हैं, वैसे ही हम भी अपनी परेशानी पार कर दें।

आ नो मित्रावरुणा हव्यजुष्टिं घृतैर्गव्यूतिमुक्षतमिळाभिः । प्रति वामत्र वरमा जनाय पृणीतमुद्नो दिव्यस्य चारोः ॥
मित्र और वरुण, हमारी तरफ आओ। हमने जो भी चढ़ाया है वो ले लो। घी और दूध की नदियाँ बहा दो। हमें ऐसे मैदान दे दो जहाँ हमें सब कुछ मिले। यहाँ आके लोगों को वो चीज़ दे दो जो सबसे अच्छी है। यह तुम्हारी तरफ से ऊपर वाले की मेहरबानी है।

एष स्तोमो वरुण मित्र तुभ्यं सोमः शुक्रो न वायवेऽयामि । अविष्टं धियो जिगृतं पुरंधीर्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥
यह स्तोत्र मैं तुम्हे दे रहा हूँ, वरुण और मित्र। जैसे चमकता हुआ सोम रस वायु के लिए लाया जाता है, वैसे ही मैं यह लाया हूँ। हमारे इरादे को सही दिशा दे दो। हमेशा हमें भलाई से बचाते रहो।
