This six-verse Triṣṭubh hymn of Vasiṣṭha invokes Indra as the fierce, battle-leading protector whose lightning power steadies the host and secures victory. The poet asks Indra to keep focused, to grant enduring shelter and protection day after day, and to fill the worshippers with abundance, strength, and well-being.

Mantra 1
आ ते मह इन्द्रोत्युग्र समन्यवो यत्समरन्त सेनाः । पताति दिद्युन्नर्यस्य बाह्वोर्मा ते मनो विष्वद्र्यग्वि चारीत् ॥
इंद्र, जब सेना लड़ने आती है, सब तुम्हारी मदद लेते हैं। वीर पुरुष की बिजली उसके हाथों से चमकती है। तुम्हारा मन इधर-उधर मत भटकने दो, एक जगह रखो।

नि दुर्ग इन्द्र श्नथिह्यमित्राँ अभि ये नो मर्तासो अमन्ति । आरे तं शंसं कृणुहि निनित्सोरा नो भर सम्भरणं वसूनाम् ॥
इंद्र, मुश्किल में दुश्मन को कुचल दो। जो लोग हमारे ऊपर चढ़ के आते हैं, उनको रोक दो। बुरा बोलने वाले की आवाज़ को दूर कर दो। हमें धन इकट्ठा करके दो।

शतं ते शिप्रिन्नूतयः सुदासे सहस्रं शंसा उत रातिरस्तु । जहि वधर्वनुषो मर्त्यस्यास्मे द्युम्नमधि रत्नं च धेहि ॥
जो अच्छा देता है, उसको सौ मदद मिले। हज़ार लोग तुम्हारी तारीफ करें और तुम भी दो। जो हमारे दुश्मन को मारना चाहते हैं, उनको मार दो। हमें तेज़ और धन दे दो।

त्वावतो हीन्द्र क्रत्वे अस्मि त्वावतोऽवितुः शूर रातौ । विश्वेदहानि तविषीव उग्रँ ओकः कृणुष्व हरिवो न मर्धीः ॥
मैं तुम्हारा हूँ इन्द्र, तुम्हारे इरादे के साथ। मैं तुम्हारा हूँ जब बचाने का काम हो, जब कुछ देने का काम हो। हर दिन, तुम जो बलवान हो, हमारे लिए मज़बूत घर बना दो। हमें अकेला मत छोड़ो।

कुत्सा एते हर्यश्वाय शूषमिन्द्रे सहो देवजूतमियानाः । सत्रा कृधि सुहना शूर वृत्रा वयं तरुत्राः सनुयाम वाजम् ॥
यह ताक़त इन्द्र के लिए है, भगवान की तरफ़ से आई हुई। हम भी उसके साथ मिल के दुश्मनों को हराने की कोशिश करते हैं। इन्द्र, हमें ऐसा बना दो कि हम हमेशा जीतते रहें। हम उस पूरा बल को पा लें।

एवा न इन्द्र वार्यस्य पूर्धि प्र ते महीं सुमतिं वेविदाम । इषं पिन्व मघवद्भ्यः सुवीरां यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥
इन्द्र, हमारे लिए वो सबसे अच्छा फल ला दो। तेरी बड़ी दया हम पा लें। जो लोग देनेवाले हैं, उनके लिए और ताक़त बढ़ा दे। तुम हमेशा हम पर ध्यान रखो और हमें ठीक रखो।
