Indra-Agni (dual deity)
Gāyatrī (3 pādas of 8 syllables; typical for compact dual-invocations)
This compact Indrāgnī hymn invokes Indra and Agni together as the paired powers who uphold the mortal in contests of strength and right action. It asks them to break inner and outer obstructions, guide the “chariots” of movement, and establish wide fame, wealth, and sustaining nourishment for the singers through the properly offered oblation.

Mantra 1
इन्द्राग्नी यमवथ उभा वाजेषु मर्त्यम् । दृळ्हा चित्स प्र भेदति द्युम्ना वाणीरिव त्रितः ॥
इंद्र और अग्नि जब किसी इंसान को अपना लेते हैं, वो इंसान सबसे बड़ी बाधा भी तोड़ देता है। जैसे कोई रास्ता खुल जाता है, वैसे ही उसके अंदर से बात निकल आती है। जब दो ताकतें मिल जाती हैं, अंदर की रुकावटें टूट जाती हैं और रोशनी आती है।

या पृतनासु दुष्टरा या वाजेषु श्रवाय्या । या पञ्च चर्षणीरभीन्द्राग्नी ता हवामहे ॥
इंद्र और अग्नि की वो ताकत जिसे लड़ाई में पार करना मुश्किल है। जो नाम रोशन करती है। जो पाँच तरह के लोगों को साथ लेकर चलती है। हम उस ताकत को बुला रहे हैं। अंदर आ जाए। जीत लाए और सच्चाई की बधाई करे।

तयोरिदमवच्छवस्तिग्मा दिद्युन्मघोनोः । प्रति द्रुणा गभस्त्योर्गवां वृत्रघ्न एषते ॥
इन दोनों में बहुत ताकत है। चमक तेज़ है जो इनके हाथों से निकलती है। अंधेरी जगह से रोशनी को बाहर लाने की कोशिश होती है। जैसे कोई बंद कमरे में रोशनी ढूंढ़ता है, वैसे ही यह ताकत ज्ञान की किरणों तक पहुँचने की कोशिश करती है।

ता वामेषे रथानामिन्द्राग्नी हवामहे । पती तुरस्य राधसो विद्वांसा गिर्वणस्तमा ॥
हम दोनों को बुला रहे हैं, इंद्र और अग्नि। दोनों अपनी गाड़ियों के सरदार हैं। दोनों जल्दी से आते हैं और बड़ा देते हैं। इन्हे सब पता है, और यह हमारी बात सुनते हैं। आओ और हमारे काम को सही चलाओ, ताकि हम वोह पाएँ जो तुम देते हो।

ता वृधन्तावनु द्यून्मर्ताय देवावदभा । अर्हन्ता चित्पुरो दधेंऽशेव देवावर्वते ॥
यह दोनों देवता दिन भर इंसान के लिए चलते रहते हैं। इनकी ताकत बढ़ती रहती है। कोई इन्हे हिला नहीं सकता। यह आगे निकल के रास्ता दिखाते हैं, जैसे कोई हक से हिस्सा ले। जीवन की ताकत आगे बढ़ने लगती है।

एवेन्द्राग्निभ्यामहावि हव्यं शूष्यं घृतं न पूतमद्रिभिः । ता सूरिषु श्रवो बृहद्रयिं गृणत्सु दिधृतमिषं गृणत्सु दिधृतम् ॥
इंद्र और अग्नि के लिए हमने समर्पन किया है। यह घी जैसा साफ है, पत्थर से निचोड़ा हुआ। यह ताकत पकाती है। इन दोनों को चाहिए कि वो बड़े लोगों में नाम करें और खुशाली लाएँ। जो लोग गाते हैं, उनको ताकत दें, उनको ताकत दें।
