This hymn invokes Agni as the discerning, rightly-seated priest who “sorts” and perfects the worshipper’s work, and then draws the Maruts into the rite as the dynamic force that carries the praise forward like victorious chariots. Moving between sacrificial order (Agni) and storming inspiration (Maruts), it culminates in the shared Soma-drinking: Agni-Vaiśvānara rejoices together with the Marut-host in the luminous fore-heaven, securing prosperity, right impulse, and successful offering.

Mantra 1
ईळे अग्निं स्ववसं नमोभिरिह प्रसत्तो वि चयत्कृतं नः । रथैरिव प्र भरे वाजयद्भिः प्रदक्षिणिन्मरुतां स्तोममृध्याम् ॥
मैं अग्नि देवता को प्रणाम करता हूँ। वो खुद अपनी ताकत वाला है। यहाँ सामने बैठ के वो हमारे काम को सही करे। मरुत देवताओं की प्रार्थना रथ की तरह आगे बढ़ रही है। यह हमारे लिए शुभ हो।

आ ये तस्थुः पृषतीषु श्रुतासु सुखेषु रुद्रा मरुतो रथेषु । वना चिदुग्रा जिहते नि वो भिया पृथिवी चिद्रेजते पर्वतश्चित् ॥
जब रुद्र के मरुत देवता अपने रथ पर खड़े होते हैं, उनका रथ बहुत तेज़ चलता है। उनकी आवाज़ से जंगल भी डर के झुक जाते हैं। ज़मीन भी काँपने लगती है। पहाड़ भी हिल जाते हैं।

पर्वतश्चिन्महि वृद्धो बिभाय दिवश्चित्सानु रेजत स्वने वः । यत्क्रीळथ मरुत ऋष्टिमन्त आप इव सध्र्यञ्चो धवध्वे ॥
पुराना बड़े पहाड़ भी उनसे डर जाते हैं। आसमान के ऊपर भी काँपने लगता है जब वो ज़ोर से आवाज़ करते हैं। जब मरुत देवता अपने भालों के साथ खेलते हैं, वो पानी की नदी की तरह तेज़ी से आगे बढ़ते हैं।

वरा इवेद्रैवतासो हिरण्यैरभि स्वधाभिस्तन्वः पिपिश्रे । श्रिये श्रेयांसस्तवसो रथेषु सत्रा महांसि चक्रिरे तनूषु ॥
मरुत देवता ऐसे दिख रहे हैं जैसे कोई अच्छे दूल्हे। उन्होंने अपना बदन सोना और अपनी शक्ति से सजाया है। चमक के लिए और भी चमकदार बन गए। रथ पर बैठ के ताकतवर लग रहे हैं। सब मिलकर अपने रूप में बड़ी बड़ाई पैदा कर दी।

अज्येष्ठासो अकनिष्ठास एते सं भ्रातरो वावृधुः सौभगाय । युवा पिता स्वपा रुद्र एषां सुदुघा पृश्निः सुदिना मरुद्भ्यः ॥
ये मरुत भाई-भाई हैं। ना कोई बड़ा है ना छोटा। सब मिलकर बढ़ रहे हैं ताकि खुशी आए। इनका बाप रुद्र है जो कभी बूढ़ा नहीं होता। इनकी माँ पृश्नि है जो अच्छा दिन लाती है और इनके लिए दूध देती है।

यदुत्तमे मरुतो मध्यमे वा यद्वावमे सुभगासो दिवि ष्ठ । अतो नो रुद्रा उत वा न्वस्याग्ने वित्ताद्धविषो यद्यजाम ॥
मरुत देवता, तुम ऊपर हो या बीच में या नीचे। तुम खुश रहते हो और आसमान में बसे हो। इसलिए रुद्र और अग्नि, हमें देखो। हम यह हवन में सामग्री ला रहे हैं, उसे जान लो।

अग्निश्च यन्मरुतो विश्ववेदसो दिवो वहध्व उत्तरादधि ष्णुभिः । ते मन्दसाना धुनयो रिशादसो वामं धत्त यजमानाय सुन्वते ॥
जब मरुत देवता अग्नि को आसमान से ला रहे होते हैं, अपने रथ पर, तब वो खुश होते हैं। दुश्मन को खत्म करने वाले यह देवता हवा में हिलते हैं। जो इंसान सोम रस निकालता है, उसके लिए अच्छा फल रख देते हैं।

अग्ने मरुद्भिः शुभयद्भिॠक्वभिः सोमं पिब मन्दसानो गणश्रिभिः । पावकेभिर्विश्वमिन्वेभिरायुभिर्वैश्वानर प्रदिवा केतुना सजूः ॥
अग्नि देव, मरुत के साथ आ के सोम रस पियो। यह सब चमक रहे हैं और गाना गा रहे हैं। अपनी शक्ति से सब कुछ साफ करो। आसमान में रोशनी के साथ रहो और हमारे साथ खुश रहो।
