Sukta 4.58
वयं नाम प्र ब्रवामा घृतस्यास्मिन्यज्ञे धारयामा नमोभिः । उप ब्रह्मा शृणवच्छस्यमानं चतुःशृङ्गोऽवमीद्गौर एतत् ॥
vayáṃ nā́ma prá bravāma ghṛtásyā́smin yajñé dhārayāmā námo-bhiḥ | úpa brahmā́ śṛṇavac chasyámānaṃ catúḥ-śṛṅgo ’vamīd gáur etát ||
हम यज्ञ में घी का नाम ले रहे हैं और उसे अपना नमस्ते दे रहे हैं। ब्रह्मा जो शब्द से पैदा होता है, वो हमारी बात सुन रहा है। चार सींग वाला बैल ने यह सच बोल दिया है।
Mantric proclamation within yajña: stabilization (dhāraṇa) of ghṛta/soma-essence by namas; suited for moments of offering and recitation where the ‘name’ (power) is affirmed.
nāma as śakti (name as power), brahman as creative word, fourfoldness (possible link to four levels of vāc)
The ‘name’ of ghṛta is upheld in yajña—symbol of maintaining ṛta within the being by right offering and right speech.
The Bull ‘utters’ etat—this truth—signaling satya as lived revelation, not concept.
Creation through Word and luminous essence: truth becomes manifest when substance is clarified and named/formed.
Proto-Vedāntic and mantra-śakti orientation (Vāc/Brahman as creative principle).
Clarified ghee = clarified awareness; bull = dynamic truth-force; lowing = inner revelation-sound (nāda) confirming right alignment.
Hold ‘clarified awareness’ steadily and let the inner Word become true speech (speech aligned with the soul’s intention).
viśuddha (vāc/formation) and ājñā (illumination)
Slow nāḍī-śodhana or equal breathing (sama-vṛtti) while mentally offering each exhale into an inner flame.
From collected attention to illumined certitude (a ‘heard’ inner confirmation).
Begin with a brief bow (namo-bhāva). Visualize a golden clarity (ghṛta) in the heart-fire; repeat the mantra softly, then pause in silence for the ‘bull-like’ inner affirmation—steady, unmistakable.
Use standard Rigvedic svara awareness: udatta peaks on key declarative words; observe anudatta lows and svarita falls as marked in a proper pada/svara text (exact pattern requires the hymn’s svara notation).
Lean emphasis on content-words: ghṛtásya, yajñé, bráhmā, cátuḥśṛṅgaḥ, gáuraḥ, état; keep particles (upa, prā) light.
Keep ṛ in ghṛta clear (not ‘gheeta’)., Differentiate ś (palatal) in śṛṇavat from ṣ (retroflex)., Sustain long vowels: brāvāmā, dhārayāmā., Pronounce ḥ in namaḥ as a soft visarga before bh (namaobhiḥ in sandhi context).
Clear, resonant, slightly declarative; end with a grounded cadence on etat.
Answers come straight from the texts, with the shlokas they draw on. Ask in your own words.
