Agni

This hymn invokes Agni as an expansive, blazing power who repels hostile forces—haters, rakṣasas, and afflictions—while establishing the worshipper in a “vast” shelter of peace and protection. Agni is praised as invincible leader and guardian of the sacrifice, guiding the rite to its successful outcome and opening “fronts of felicity.” The closing prayer asks for enduring gains symbolized by the Cow (light/wealth/knowledge), along with progeny and Agni’s steady goodwill.

Mantra 1
वि पाजसा पृथुना शोशुचानो बाधस्व द्विषो रक्षसो अमीवाः । सुशर्मणो बृहतः शर्मणि स्यामग्नेरहं सुहवस्य प्रणीतौ ॥
अग्नि, तुम्हारी चमक बहुत बड़ी है। अपनी इस ताकत से दुश्मनों को भगाओ, जो लोग बुरा करते हैं उनको दूर कर दो। हमें बड़ी शांति मिले, जहाँ हम सेफ रहें। मैं अग्नि की शरण में रहना चाहता हूँ जो मुझे सही रास्ता दिखाए।

त्वं नो अस्या उषसो व्युष्टौ त्वं सूर उदिते बोधि गोपाः । जन्मेव नित्यं तनयं जुषस्व स्तोमं मे अग्ने तन्वा सुजात ॥
जब सुबह की रोशनी आए, अग्नि तुम हमारे रखवाले बनो। जब सूरज निकले, तुम हमारे प्रोटेक्टर बनो। जैसे बाप अपने बेटे को खुश रखता है, वैसे ही अग्नि तुम मेरा यह गाना स्वीकारो। तुम तो अच्छे से पैदा हुए हो।

त्वं नृचक्षा वृषभानु पूर्वीः कृष्णास्वग्ने अरुषो वि भाहि । वसो नेषि च पर्षि चात्यंहः कृधी नो राय उशिजो यविष्ठ ॥
अग्नि, तुम इंसान के दिल की बात जानते हो। तुम पुराने रास्ते पे चलो। अंधेरे में भी तुम्हारी चमक दिखती है, तुम लाल हो। हमें दुख से पार ले जाओ, सेफ बना दो। हमें धन दो, जो हम ढूँढ रहे हैं। तुम सबसे तेज़ हो।

अषाळ्हो अग्ने वृषभो दिदीहि पुरो विश्वाः सौभगा संजिगीवान् । यज्ञस्य नेता प्रथमस्य पायोर्जातवेदो बृहतः सुप्रणीते ॥
अग्नि, तू है जिसे कोई हरा नहीं सकता। तू बलवान है, चमक के सामने आ। हमारे लिए हर तरह की खुशी और कामयाबी ला। तू यज्ञ का लीडर है, सबसे पहले बना है। जातवेदस, हमको बड़े मार्ग पर ले जा।

अच्छिद्रा शर्म जरितः पुरूणि देवाँ अच्छा दीद्यानः सुमेधाः । रथो न सस्निरभि वक्षि वाजमग्ने त्वं रोदसी नः सुमेके ॥
अग्नि, तू हमारे लिए ऐसे सुरक्षा देता है जो कभी टूटी नहीं। तू चमकता है और समझदार है, देवियों के पास ले जा। जैसे रथ अपना रास्ता चलता है, वैसे ही हमको शक्ति तक पहुंचा। तू हमारे लिए दुनिया को एक कर देता है।

प्र पीपय वृषभ जिन्व वाजानग्ने त्वं रोदसी नः सुदोघे । देवेभिर्देव सुरुचा रुचानो मा नो मर्तस्य दुर्मतिः परि ष्ठात् ॥
अग्नि, तू बलवान है, हमारी बड़ाई कर। हमारे लिए शक्ति और खुशी ला। तू दुनिया को हमारे लिए ऐसा बना जैसे गाय दूध देती है। देवियों के बीच तू चमकता है। हमें कोई बुरा खयाल नहीं पकड़ना चाहिए।

इळामग्ने पुरुदंसं सनिं गोः शश्वत्तमं हवमानाय साध । स्यान्नः सूनुस्तनयो विजावाग्ने सा ते सुमतिर्भूत्वस्मे ॥
अग्नि, जो तुझे पुकारता है उसके लिए इला का काम कर। उसको गाय और धन मिलता रहे। हमारे लिए बेटा हो, जो जीता है। अग्नि, यह तेरी खुशी हमारे ऊपर रहे।
