Inside Sukta 25

How it unfolds

  1. Where it opens

A direct prayer for Soma to ‘breathe’ the good into the worshipper—mind, skill, and right intention—framing Soma as inner benefactor and friend.

  2. Development

Soma’s delight (mada) is unfolded as an expansive power: it makes energies rejoice and move toward increase, like cattle surging toward pasture; it also enlarges the seer’s thought and supports divine might.

  3. Climax

Soma is acclaimed as the force that grants vāja and the ‘supreme choice’ for the sevenfold powers, carrying one beyond disabling limitations (the ‘blind and lame’) into wider attainment.

  4. Where it settles

The hymn settles into assurance of growth and empowerment through Soma’s friendship—an affirmed movement from petition to realized expansion and capability.

The deity: Soma

  • In the VedaSoma is the pressed sacred draught (andhas), luminous and exhilarating, offered in sacrifice and praised as a friend of the seer; his “mada” (ecstatic delight) awakens insight, strengthens the gods (notably Indra), and gladdens the worshipper.
  • Cosmic functionMediator of vitality and inspiration: Soma circulates life-force, supports divine power, and enables victory, abundance (vāja), and expansive growth through consecrated exhilaration.
  • Inner significanceThe awakened inner rapture that clarifies and enlarges consciousness—turning mind toward the good, intensifying resolve, and transforming limitation into capacity for wider attainment.

The seer

  • VimadáA late-R̥gvedic seer associated with hymns that emphasize inner uplift—good mind, effective power, and the expansive joy (mada) born of Soma; his voice often blends prayer for ethical-intent (kratu) with visionary growth.
