This late Rigvedic hymn invokes Indra as a four-directional protector who casts away hostile forces from every quarter so the worshippers may rejoice in his wide shelter (śarman). अप प्राच इन्द्र विश्वाँ अमित्रानपापाचो अभिभूते नुदस्व । अपोदीचो अप शूराधराच उरौ यथा तव शर्मन्मदेम ॥
हे इंद्र, दुश्मन लोगों को आगे से हटा दे। जो लोग पीछे से हमला करते हैं, उनको भी भगा दे। उत्तर दिशा से और नीचे से जो भी आए, उनको दूर कर। तेरा शरण बहुत बड़ा है। उसमें हम खुश और ताकतवर हो जाएंगे।

कुविदङ्ग यवमन्तो यवं चिद्यथा दान्त्यनुपूर्वं वियूय । इहेहैषां कृणुहि भोजनानि ये बर्हिषो नमोवृक्तिं न जग्मुः ॥
इंद्र, जो लोग अनाज में अमीर हैं, शायद तुम उनका भी अनाज ले सकते हो। एक के बाद एक, सब कुछ लेने का टाइम आता है। यहाँ आके इन लोगों के लिए खाना बना दो। यह वो लोग हैं जो भगवान के पास जाके पूजा नहीं कर पाए।

नहि स्थूर्यृतुथा यातमस्ति नोत श्रवो विविदे संगमेषु । गव्यन्त इन्द्रं सख्याय विप्रा अश्वायन्तो वृषणं वाजयन्तः ॥
इंद्र, तुम्हारा आना ऐसे नहीं है कि कुछ भी हो जाए। तुम्हारी बड़ाई सिर्फ बाहर दिखने में नहीं है। बुद्धि वाले लोग तुम्हे दोस्त बनाने के लिए ढूंढते हैं। वो ज्ञान की किरणों को ढूंढते हैं, ताकत के घोड़ों को ढूंढते हैं। बलवान बैल को आगे बढ़ाते हैं।

युवं सुराममश्विना नमुचावासुरे सचा । विपिपाना शुभस्पती इन्द्रं कर्मस्वावतम् ॥
अश्विन भाई, तुम दोनों ने नमुचि के साथ मिलके वो पीया था। वो असुर लोगों के बीच था, फिर भी तुमने पीया। तुम दोनों चेहरे से सुंदर हो। तुमने इंद्र की मदद की उसके काम में।

पुत्रमिव पितरावश्विनोभेन्द्रावथुः काव्यैर्दंसनाभिः । यत्सुरामं व्यपिबः शचीभिः सरस्वती त्वा मघवन्नभिष्णक् ॥
अश्विन भाई जैसे माँ बाप बेटे का साथ देते हैं, वैसे ही इंद्र तुम्हारी मदद करते थे अपनी शक्ति और होशियारी से। जब तुमने वो मज़बूत शरबत पिया अपनी ताकत के साथ, तब सरस्वती ने तुम्हे आगे बढ़ाया और जीता दिया।

इन्द्रः सुत्रामा स्ववाँ अवोभिः सुमृळीको भवतु विश्ववेदाः । बाधतां द्वेषो अभयं कृणोतु सुवीर्यस्य पतयः स्याम ॥
इंद्र अच्छा रक्षक है, अपनी खुद की ताकत वाला। वो सब जानने वाला भी है और दयालु भी। दुश्मनी को मार दे, डर को दूर कर। हम भी ऐसी हिम्मत के मालिक हो जाएँ जो चमकती है और पूरी है।

तस्य वयं सुमतौ यज्ञियस्यापि भद्रे सौमनसे स्याम । स सुत्रामा स्ववाँ इन्द्रो अस्मे आराच्चिद्द्वेषः सनुतर्युयोतु ॥
उस यज्ञ की शक्ति की अच्छी नज़र में हम भी रहें, खुश मन के साथ। इंद्र जो बड़ा रक्षक है और अपनी ताकत वाला, वो हमसे दुश्मनी को बहुत दूर भगा दे, पूरा मिटा दे।
