ब्रह्मोपमा महात्मानः कुशवंश्या नरोत्तमाः ॥२०॥
kuśikānām ayaṃ vaṃśo mahān dharmaparaḥ sadā |
brahmopamā mahātmānaḥ kuśavaṃśyā narottamāḥ ||20||
This is the family of the Kusas, venerable always devoted to dharma, foremost of men, great like Lord Brahma.
Noble lineage is measured by sustained devotion to dharma and inner greatness (mahātmatā), not merely by birth.
Smaraƺ of dharma-nihahaā and brahma-tejas as aspirational virtues; useful for daily reflection on conduct.
Guƺ (sattva) predominance expressed as dharma-nihahaā; the 'brahmopama' trope echoes proximity to brahma-tejas rather than identity with Brahman.
Brahma-tejas and brahma-loka imagery (cf. 'brahmavid āpnoti param') used here as honorific comparison.
Vālmīki Rāmāyaƺ 1.34 (context: Viśvāmitra and Kuśika lineage praise)
Vedic/Purāic genealogical eulogies (vaśa-praśasā)
Bālakāƺ: repeated epithet 'mahātmā' for ris and kings; dharma-praise motifs in Ayodhyākāƺ
