वो अस्त्र मारीच के सीने पर लगा। वो इतनी ताकत से गिरा कि सौ योजन दूर समुंदर में जा गिरा।
Smitten by that powerful Manavaastra, Maricha was thrown to a full distance of hundred yojanas into the surging high seas.
Adharma meets swift consequence; disproportionate pride collapses before disciplined power aligned with righteousness.
Reflection on the ‘ocean’ as the vastness of reality that swallows ego; cultivating humility after witnessing power and consequence.
The ocean as the boundless field into which egoic force is cast; the finite is overwhelmed by the infinite.
Ocean imagery often serves as a metaphor for the vast Brahman/limitless reality; here it underscores immeasurable power and dissolution of pride.
Sāgara-samplava (tumult/surge)
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa 3.40 (Mārīca recounts being hurled into the sea by Rāma); Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa 6.21-6.22 (ocean as vast boundary in the epic’s geography)
Purāṇic/epic motif of demons being cast into the sea by divine force
Bālakāṇḍa: immediate aftermath of Mānava-astra use; sets up Mārīca’s later fear and compliance with Rāvaṇa

Narrative
Madhyama (middle register)
Adharma brings swift consequence; the narrative underscores that disruption of sacred duty leads to decisive removal of the threat.
After being hit, Mārīca is violently propelled far away into the ocean, effectively neutralized from the sacrificial ground.
Efficacy in protection: Rāma’s defense is not symbolic; it is strong enough to secure the yajña’s safety.
