The Manifestation of the Śloka
मा निषाद प्रतिष्ठां त्वमगमश्शाश्वतीस्समाः ।
यत्क्रौञ्चमिथुनादेकमवधीः काममोहितम् ॥१५॥

mā niṣāda pratiṣṭhāṃ tvamagamaśśāśvatīssamāḥ |
yatkrauñcamithunādekamavadhīḥ kāmamohitam ||15||

रिशि ने शिकारी से कहा, अरे शिकारी, तुम्हारा कोई नाम नहीं रहेगा। तुमने जो किया वो गलत है। तुमने उस चिड़िया को मारा जो अपने साथी के साथ प्यार में थी। इसलिए तुम्हे कभी इज़्ज़त नहीं मिलेगी।
"O fowler, since you have killed one of the pair of infatuated kraunchas you will be permanently deprived of your position".
Honor (pratiṣṭhā) is incompatible with cruelty; violating dharma—killing an innocent being, especially at a vulnerable moment—leads to loss of social and moral standing.
Vālmīki directly addresses the hunter and utters an imprecation that becomes the celebrated first śloka.
