Rishi: Atharvanic tradition
Devata: Bandhura-s (personified agents/assistants of binding); the rite’s efficacy is also vested in the cord/strap as quasi-deities
Chandas: Anuṣṭubh (probable; standard for such Atharvanic verses)
Mantra 1
Mantra 2
Mantra 3
Mantra 4
Mantra 5
Mantra 6
It is used to ritually bind and disable an adversary’s force and public standing, and also to protect against viṣkandha-type afflictions through an empowered amulet (maṇi).
Because the rite is materially enacted: the tawny cord and halter-thong are treated as carriers of binding power, making the spoken intention ‘fastened’ and effective.
Both strands appear: the Bandhura binding is abhicārika in tone, while the viṣkandha-destroying maṇi functions as bhaiṣajya/apotropaic protection, including possible veterinary overlap.
