Whose horses are abroad in every quarter, whose cows, whose villages, whose chariots are all; who generated the Sun, who Dawn; who is leader of the Waters: he, O peoples, is Indra.

Sayana reads the wealth-catalog (horses, cows, villages, chariots) as marks of Indra’s lordship and as gifts he can confer upon patrons. The cosmogonic claims (begetting Sun and Dawn; leading the waters) magnify Indra’s sovereignty, thereby strengthening the mantra’s capacity to secure worldly resources and cosmic order for the sacrificer.
To attract and stabilize wealth (cattle, transport, settlements) and to align the patron’s domain with cosmic order (sun/dawn/waters).
Stress-regulation via imagery of control over ‘flows’ (waters/emotions) and structured prosperity; can support resilience practices but is not a medical claim.
paustika
Householder/patron/leader and their domain (household, herd, settlement)
Attract and stabilize prosperity-assets (cattle, transport, settlements) and legitimate the patron’s domain by aligning it with cosmic generators (Sun/Dawn) and life-flows (Waters).
Stuti + identificatory listing (naming the totality of assets) to ‘bind’ them under Indra’s sovereignty and redirect that sovereignty toward the reciter’s sphere.
Resource loss, disintegration of community, disruption of movement/trade, drought-like stagnation of flows
Cattle-wealth, mobility/transport, territorial stability, political legitimacy
Indra is proclaimed as the sovereign whose assets and forces extend in all directions: horses, cattle, villages, and chariots; he is also credited with cosmic generation (Sun and Dawn) and with leadership over the Waters.
The psyche’s ‘Indra-function’ is integrative command: the capacity to coordinate resources (mobility, nourishment, community, instruments of action) and align them with daily renewal (uṣas) and clarity (sūrya). ‘Leader of the waters’ points to guiding emotions and life-energies rather than being carried away by them.
Prosperity and stable rule arise when power is not mere possession but ordered distribution—mobility, food, social cohesion, and right timing—aligned with the rhythms of renewal and the flow of life.
Sovereign clarity guiding life-flows: visualize resources, relationships, and emotions moving in ordered channels under a steady inner command (Indra).
Manipura (agency/command) with support of Anahata (community cohesion)
Moderate, even nasal breathing; emphasize long exhalations on the cadence of ‘yasya…yasya…’ to cultivate steadiness.
Imagine ‘waters’ as a clear river through the body-mind, directed without force; dawn-light rising behind the sternum and solar clarity at the brow.
Collected, directive attention (ekāgratā with executive calm).
Recite once through slowly to ‘map’ domains of life (mobility, food, home, tools, time, flow), then recite 3–9 times with a vow of right stewardship.
RV-style triṣṭubh recitation with udātta prominence on key invocatory words; maintain steady rise-fall across each 11-syllable pāda.
Lean on the anaphora ‘yasya…yasya…’ as the binding hinge; keep ‘sūryam/uṣasam/apām netā’ clearly articulated as climactic identifiers.
Distinguish ś/ṣ/s: aśvāsaḥ, viśve, Keep retroflex ṭ in netā (dental n, but clear long ā) and in prati- (if recited with related verses), Hold long vowels: sūryaṃ, uṣasaṃ, apām, Do not swallow sandhi around ‘sa janāsa indraḥ’—make the cadence audible
Firm, proclamatory, ‘royal’ tone; avoid haste so the catalogue remains intelligible.
In Atharvanic use, this works well as a ‘domain-sealing’ recitation: speak facing the four directions (pradiśi) to enact the verse’s spatial claim.

Building household stability (finances, home, community ties), launching a venture, assuming leadership responsibility, or seeking orderly ‘flow’ in life.
At dawn/sunrise; before travel; before community meetings; when resources feel scattered and need integration.
Greater steadiness, confidence, and a sense of ordered prosperity; motivation toward responsible stewardship of assets and relationships.
Avoid using as a justification for domination or exploitation; pair with ethical restraint and fair distribution—otherwise the ‘sovereignty’ theme becomes psychologically inflating.
