Is mantra mein Soma ki pavitra dhara ki baat hai jo dabi hui hai. Soma ko dabaya jata hai, phir oon se saaf kiya jata hai. Aise hi maa apne naye bachche ko sambhalti hai, waise Soma ko saaf kiya jata hai. Ye saaf hua Soma Indra ke liye ek khaas peye ban jata hai.

Log uski taraf jhukte hain jo dhoka nahi deta. Yeh woh cheez hai jo Indra ko pasand hai. Jaise maa bachde ko chaat-ti hai, waise hi woh use pyaar se bana dete hain.

Mantra 2

Soma, tu khud ko saaf kar aur dhan le aa. Tu dono tarah ka dhan laata hai, zyada aur poora. Jo log dete hain, unke ghar mein tu sab kuchh bhar deta hai.

Mantra 3

Tu soch bhejta hai jo dimaag se judi ho. Jaise baadal se baarish aati hai, waise hi tu soch bhejta hai. Tu duniya ki cheezein bhi badhaata hai, aasmaan ki bhi.

Mantra 4

Jaise koi jeeta hua ghoda daudta hai, waise hi Soma ras sab taraf bah raha hai. Woh bhaagta hua woolen filter se guzar jata hai. Yeh filter kabhi kharab nahi hota. Woh ek taakatwar ghoda jaisa hai jo race jeet raha hai.

Mantra 5

Hey kavi rishi, Soma ras saaf ho ke beh raha hai. Yeh hamare iraade aur samajh ke liye hai. Isko Indra ke liye nikala hai, woh piyenge. Mitra aur Varun ke liye bhi hai yeh ras.

Mantra 6

Soma ras saaf ho ke filter se guzar raha hai. Yeh sabse zyada jeetne wala ras hai. Indra ke liye hai, Vishnu ke liye hai, aur sab bhagwanon ke liye hai. Isme shahad jaisi meethi khushi hai.

Mantra 7

Maa jaise apne bacche ko chaat ke pyaar karti hai, waise hi yeh taakatein Soma ras ko filter mein pyaar se saaf kar rahi hain. Yeh koi bura nahi manate, bas pyaar se kaam kar rahi hain. Soma ras apna kaam karta rehta hai.

Mantra 8

Soma ras badhiya naam le ke chal raha hai. Uski chamak alag-alag rango mein hai. Woh aage badh ke andhera mita deta hai. Jo log daan dete hain, unke ghar se buraai door ho jati hai.

Mantra 9

Pavamana, tum itne bade ho ki aasman aur dharti dono ko pakad ke unse bhi badh gaye ho. Tumhari badi taakat se woh purani chadar jo andar se roke hue thi, woh ab saaf ho ke gir gayi hai.

Inside Sukta 100

How it unfolds

  1. Where it opens

The hymn opens with the faithful, undeceiving powers pressing toward Soma—cherishing and perfecting it like mothers tending a newborn calf, emphasizing careful formation through purification.

  2. Development

Soma is invoked to flow in a strong stream for human kratu and dakṣa, and to become the drink that empowers Indra while also serving other upholders of order (Mitra–Varuṇa).

  3. Climax

Soma’s greatness is proclaimed as cosmic: he upholds and exceeds Heaven and Earth and, by his might, throws off the obstructing covering (drāpi), revealing pure potency.

  4. Where it settles

The hymn settles into the assurance that the purified flow—now unveiled and powerful—stands ready to be offered and to confer strength, clarity, and ordered vitality.

The deity: Soma Pavamāna

  • In the VedaSoma is the pressed plant-juice that becomes a god: a flowing, shining, self-purifying power that runs in streams, is strained through the filter, and is offered as exhilarating draught. He is addressed as kavi (seer) and as a mighty, wide-vowed force whose purification reveals brilliance and potency.
  • Cosmic functionMediator between worlds: through purification and offering, Soma strengthens the gods (notably Indra), sustains ṛta (cosmic order), and renews vitality and inspired speech in the sacrificers.
  • Inner significanceThe clarified mind and refined life-force: as Soma is filtered, so consciousness is purified—deception and dullness fall away, and will (kratu) and discernment (dakṣa) become luminous and effective.

The seer

  • Pavamāna Soma seer tradition (anonymous/collective)Pavamāna (Soma) hymnist lineages of Mandala 9; specific gotra not securely identifiable for RV 9.100 · Curating and transmitting the Soma-pavamāna corpus: hymns that accompany the pressing and filtration of Soma, blending precise ritual diction with visionary cosmology.

  • Soma is strained through the woolen filter (pavitra), becoming ‘pavamāna’—the purified stream.
  • The purified Soma is collected in vessels and praised as it ‘runs’ in a steady dhārā (stream).
  • Libations are offered to Indra; associated offerings may be directed to Mitra–Varuṇa and other deities per the rite.
  • Participants partake according to ritual roles; the hymn functions as an accompaniment to the flowing/filtration moment.

Offerings

  • Purified Soma juice (pavamāna) as libation
  • Supporting oblations customary to Soma rites (e.g., ghee in fire offerings, where applicable)

Frequently Asked Questions

It praises Soma as he is pressed and purified through the filter, becoming a powerful, shining drink—especially for Indra—and a source of clarity and strength for the worshippers.
