Sukta 5.80
Atri (Ātreya tradition) (traditional attribution for RV 5.80)
Uṣas (Dawn)
Jagatī (probable for many verses in RV 5.80; exact metrical scan may vary by pada)
Atri ke rishi log subah ke udaya se pehle Ushas ko bulate hain. Wo kehte hain ki Ushas laal-bhura chamak ke aati hai aur duniya ko roshni mein lati hai. Ye roshni rta ke hisaab se sahi time par aati hai.
Usha devi aasmaan mein chamak rahi hai. Woh badi hai aur sachchai ka paalan karti hai. Laal-pila rang hai uska, aur roshni faila rahi hai. Yeh devi swarg ki roshni laati hai. Rishi log apne soch se usse jagate hain.
Mantra 2
Woh sabse sundar dikhti hai aur logon ko jagati hai. Woh raaste saaf karti hai aur aage chalti hai. Badi rath mein baithi hai, badi takat hai uski. Sab ko aage badhati hai. Usha din ki shuruwat mein roshni laati hai.
Mantra 3
Usha apne laal kirnon ko jodti hai, jaise gaayon ko joda jata hai. Woh aisi sampatti banati hai jo kabhi khatam nahi hoti. Raaste saaf karti hai taaki aasani se chalein. Log uski bahut tarif karte hain. Woh sab accha deti hai aur chamakti hai.
Mantra 4
Woh charo taraf failti hai aur badi takat rakhti hai. Apna roop saamne laati hai. Woh sachchai ke raaste par chalti hai. Woh jaanti hai kahan jana hai, isliye disha kabhi galat nahi hoti.
Mantra 5
Yeh usha subah bilkul saaf aur chamakdar hai. Woh apna roop jaanti hai. Woh hamare saamne khadi hai, jaise koi uth ke naha ke chamak raha ho. Woh dushmani aur andhera dono ko bhaga deti hai. Usha, aasmaan ki beti, roshni lekar aa gayi hai.
Mantra 6
Yeh usha phir se aa rahi hai. Woh aasmaan ki beti hai. Woh acchi aur pyaari hai. Woh logon ko apni taraf kheenchti hai. Woh jo dete hain unko acchi cheezein deti hai. Woh phir se roshni laati hai, jaise pehle karti thi.
The hymn praises Uṣas, the goddess of Dawn, as the radiant power who brings light and sets life in motion according to ṛta (cosmic order).
It means Uṣas reveals the world in a harmonious, orderly way—keeping the right orientation of time, space, and action, rather than creating confusion or disorder.
It is best recited at dawn or just before sunrise to cultivate clarity, renewed energy, and alignment with truth and right order for the day’s work and decisions.
