Sukta 10.154
Soma (and implicitly the Fathers/blessed as recipients)
Yeh mantra un logon ke liye hai jo duniya chhod ke chale gaye hain. Yahan pray kar rahe hain ki marne ke baad aatma acchi jagah pahunche. Soma ki meethi boondein aur ghee jaisi chamak wali jagah ki baat hai. Yahan kuch logon ka naam aata hai - jo yuddh mein veer the, jo apna tyag kiye, jo daan kiye, jo tapasya se bade rishi bane. Yama in sab ka karta-dharta hai. Pray hai ki aatma un jaisi roshni wali jagah jaye. Yeh purkho ke liye ek request hai.
Mantra 1
Som un logon ke paas jaata hai jinke liye woh bahata hai. Kuch log usse roshni maante hain, kuch puja ke liye use karte hain. Jiske liye yeh meetha paani bahata hai, usi ke paas pahunch jaana chahiye.
Mantra 2
Woh veer log jo ladai mein ladte hain aur apni jaan sach ke liye de dete hain. Ya phir jo log bada daan karte hain. Un logon ke paas bhi pahunch jaana chahiye.
Mantra 4
Yama, is aadmi ko un purane logon ke paas le jao. Woh log dharam ke saathi the, dharam ko maante the, dharam ko badhaate the. Yeh woh pitajana hain jo bahut tapasya kiye. Inke paas yeh aadmi pahunch jaye.
Mantra 5
Yama, is aadmi ko un rishiyon ke paas bhi le jao. Inke paas bhi yeh pahunch jaye.
It is a prayer that the departed person may reach the blessed realm—those worthy recipients for whom Soma flows as sweetness and radiant offering, under Yama’s guardianship.
The hymn lists examples of merit recognized in Vedic thought—valor in battle, self-sacrifice, and great generosity—as signs of those who have attained a fortunate post-death destination.
It points to ṛṣis/kavis who protect and uphold the light of truth (symbolized by the Sun). The hymn asks that the departed join this luminous, tapas-born company.
