Sukta 10.152
Traditionally attributed in Anukramaṇī to a late Vedic seer (RV 10.152 is an Indra hymn; exact r̥ṣi attribution varies across recensions and needs external confirmation)
Indra
Triṣṭubh (probable for RV 10.152; common for Indra battle-hymns)
Is mantra mein Indra ko bulaya gaya hai. Wo ek aisa shaktishali saathi hai jo kabhi fail nahi hota. Indra apne saathi ko harane wala bana deta hai. Wo gusse aur buraayi ko door bhaga deta hai. Indra dushman ke vaar se bachne ke liye chhata deta hai. Ye mantra ladai aur takraar mein madad maangta hai. Indra andar ki ghabrahat bhi door karta hai.
Mantra 1
He shaktishali shasan karne wale, tum bade ho. Tum dushmano ko khatam karte ho. Tumhari koi misaal nahi. Jiska dost tum ho, use koi maar nahi sakta. Woh kabhi har nahi sakta.
Mantra 2
Indra bhalaai dene wala hai. Woh logon ka neta hai. Usne Vritra ko maara, dushmano ko haraya. He Indra, tum hamare aage chalo. Tum Som ras piyo, tum darr door karo aur hamare liye raasta banao.
Mantra 3
He Indra, buri shaktiyon ko bhaga de. Jo hamla karte hain unko maar. Vritra ke munh tod de. Jo dushman hampe attack karna chahta hai, uska gussa khatam kar de. Tum Vritra ke maaranewale ho.
Mantra 4
Hey Indra, hamare upar jo hamla ho raha hai usse faila de. Us ladne wale ko neeche gira de.
It asks Indra to protect the worshipper, scatter hostile forces and attacks, break obstruction (Vṛtra imagery), and grant safe shelter (śarma) so one is not conquered.
“Vṛtrahan” means “slayer of Vṛtra,” the Obstructor. In the hymn it signals Indra’s power to destroy whatever blocks life, safety, and success—outer enemies and inner obstacles alike.
Yes. Traditionally its tone is protective and victory-seeking: it can be recited before challenges, during fear or conflict, or as a daily prayer for courage, clarity, and safeguarding from hostility.
