Bharata Affirms Lineage-Dharma and Urges Rama’s Coronation

Dasharatha ke antim waqt mein unka mann bas Ram mein laga tha.

Shlokas

Verse 1

Ram ke baat sun ke Bharat ne jawab diya. Usne kaha, main dharam se door ho gaya hoon. Aisa mein mera rajdharam kya kaam aayega?

Verse 2

Bharat ne kaha, hamare khandaan mein ek hi niyam hai. Jab bada beta hai to chota beta raja nahi ban sakta. Yeh hamara purana dharam hai jo kabhi nahi badalta.

Verse 3

Bharat ne kaha, isliye mere saath Ayodhya chalo. Wahan tum apna rajtilak karwao. Isse hamara poora khandaan badhega aur hum sab theek rahenge.

Verse 4

Log kehte hain raja insaan hota hai. Par mere liye wo bhagwan jaisa tha. Unka kaam itna sahi tha, dharam aur artha dono ka dhyan rakhta tha. Aisa kaam koi insaan nahi kar sakta.

Verse 5

Jab main Kekaya mein tha aur tum jungle mein the, tab hamare raja swarg chale gaye. Wo hamesha puja-path karte the aur ache log unki bahut izzat karte the.

Tumhare papa tumhare liye rote rahe. Tumhe dekhna chahte the, tumhare bina reh nahi pa rahe the. Tumhare bina itna dukhi ho gaye ki mar gaye, tumhara naam lete lete.

Frequently Asked Questions

The dilemma is succession versus righteousness: Bharata argues that accepting the throne while the eldest (Rāma) lives violates the dynasty’s enduring rule and renders royal duty meaningless for one ‘devoid of dharma.’ His action is a principled refusal of power coupled with an insistence on lawful coronation.

Legitimate governance is measured by conformity to dharma, not by opportunity or coercion. Bharata’s view that the king is ‘divine’ only insofar as conduct and statecraft align with righteousness frames political authority as an ethical vocation accountable to tradition, ritual duty, and public trust.

Ayodhyā is presented as the rightful seat of consecrated rule; Kekaya marks Bharata’s absence during the crisis; the forest signifies exile as a legal-moral condition. Culturally, the sarga highlights udaka offerings and the concept of pitṛloka, stressing that rites performed by a beloved son are considered imperishable.
