Rishi: Atharvanic tradition (protective hymn; r̥ṣi attribution varies in ancillary lists)
Devata: Sarvadevatā with emphasis on Pūṣan as guardian against Mṛtyu
Chandas: Mixed/Anuṣṭubh-like cadence with extended pādas (late Atharvanic style)
Yeh mantra ek khaas suraksha kawach banata hai jo insaan ko gher leta hai. Ismein bahut saare devi-devata ko bulaya jaata hai dushman taakat se bachne ke liye. Pushan ko khaas roop se sambhalkarta bataya gaya hai jo maut ko door rakhta hai. Yeh swarg aur dharti, din aur suraj sab ko protection ke liye lagata hai. Isse koi bura taakat, chahe woh wapas aane wala bura ho, paas nahi aa sakta. Maut ka dar isse door bhag jaata hai. Yeh mantra insaan ko surakshit karta hai aur uske upar ek kawach bana deta hai.
Mantra 1
Soma, Varun, Ashwin, Yama, yeh bhi saath the. Pusha devta humein maut se bacha le.
Mantra 2
Devtaon ne apne shareer par kawach bandhe the. Woh aasman wale devta the aur insaanon ke liye yeh kiya. Indra ne bhi ek kawach banaya tha. Woh kawach mujhe charo taraf se bachaye.
Mantra 4
Mera kawach ho aasman aur dharti. Din mera kawach ho, suraj mera kawach ho. Saare devtaon ne jo kawach banaya hai woh mera ho.
It is used to establish a protective ‘armor’ around a person—repelling human-caused harm, blocking hostile forces, and especially guarding against the approach of untimely death.
Pūṣan is the guardian of paths and safe passage; in this hymn he is asked to encircle the person and keep Death from gaining access, acting as the focused protector within the All-Gods’ collective shield.
No. The primary ‘substance’ is the spoken varman itself. If desired, a simple protective thread or cloth amulet can be charged by recitation and worn as a reminder and support for the protective intention.
