याज्ञवल्क्यः । अरोगिणीं भ्रातृमतीमसमानार्षगोत्रजाम् । पंचमात्सप्तमार्दूर्ध्वं मातृतः पितृत स्तथा

Transliteration

yājñavalkyaḥ | arogiṇīṃ bhrātṛmatīmasamānārṣagotrajām | paṃcamātsaptamārdūrdhvaṃ mātṛtaḥ pitṛta stathā

Translation

याज्ञवल्क्य कहते हैं—स्वस्थ, भाई वाली तथा भिन्न ऋषि-गोत्र (आर्ष-गोत्र) में उत्पन्न कन्या से विवाह करना चाहिए। माता-पक्ष और पिता-पक्ष—दोनों ओर पाँचवीं से आगे और सातवीं तक (संबंध-गणना में) विवाह की अनुमति है।
