Mantra 2

Mantra 3

Mantra 4

Mantra 6

Mantra 7

Mantra 9

Mantra 10

Mantra 11

Mantra 12

Mantra 13

Inside Sukta 13

How it unfolds

  1. Where it opens

Begins with generative, orderly forces—seasonality and waters—introducing a ‘first nectar’ imagery that frames divine power as life-producing and hymn-worthy.

  2. Development

Moves from origin-and-growth imagery to Indra’s law-sustaining action: he upholds flourishing powers, spreads out the worlds, and manifests the unequalled lightnings of heaven.

  3. Climax

Indra is acclaimed as the true subject of praise (ukthyaḥ), the one whose cosmic feats make abundance and wide space possible for gods and humans alike.

  4. Where it settles

Concludes with a direct petition: may Indra set in order for us the gift of plenitude and wealth, so that we may speak the Vast (bṛhat) in assemblies, endowed with heroic offspring/energies.

The deity: Indra

  • In the VedaIndra is the foremost heroic deity of the Rig Veda: wielder of the thunderbolt, breaker of obstacles, winner of cattle and waters, and recipient of Soma in the sacrifice. He is praised as expansive, radiant, and law-affirming—one who establishes wide spaces, brings forth the lightning of heaven, and makes prosperity flow to worshippers.
  • Cosmic functionTo secure and renew cosmic order by releasing and regulating life-forces (waters, fertility, rain), expanding the worlds/spaces, and defeating constricting powers that block abundance and light.
  • Inner significanceThe awakened will and courageous consciousness that breaks inner limitation, releases the ‘waters’ of inspiration/energy, and organizes one’s powers into effective action aligned with dharma/ṛta.

The seer

  • GṛtsamadaĀṅgirasa (Gṛtsamada lineage within the Angiras-associated seer families) · A principal seer of Maṇḍala 2, renowned for powerful Indra-stotras that blend cosmology (ṛta, worlds, lightnings) with practical ritual petition for wealth, strength, and victorious vitality.
