Sukta 1
योऽथर्वाणं पितरं देवबन्धुं बृहस्पतिं नमसाव च गछात्। त्वं विश्वेषां जनिता यथास कविर्देवो न दभायत् स्वधावान्
yó ’thárvāṇaṃ pitáraṃ devábandhuṃ bṛ́haspátiṃ namásā́va ca gáchāt | tváṃ víśveṣāṃ janitā́ yáthā́saḥ kavír devó ná dábhāyat svadhā́vān ||
He who, with reverence, would come down unto Atharvan the Father, the Gods’ own kinsman, even Bṛhaspati—thou art the begetter of all, as thou truly art: a seer, a god, not to be overreached, possessed of native might.
जो नमस्कार सहित अथर्वण पितर—देवों के बंधु—बृहस्पति के पास आए; (हे देव!) तू ही सबका जनक है, जैसा तू वास्तव में है। तू कवि (ऋषि-द्रष्टा) देव है, जिसे छल नहीं सकते; स्वधावान—स्वाभाविक शक्ति से युक्त।
