स्मृतिः स्यादनुभूतस्य वस्तुनः प्रतिविम्बनं मतिरर्थपरिच्छेदस्तत्त्वज्ञानोपनायितः

पूर्वानुभूत वस्तु का पुनः प्रतिबिंबित होना ‘स्मृति’ है। और अर्थ का निश्चयात्मक ग्रहण, जो तत्त्वज्ञान की ओर ले जाए—वह ‘मति’ (बुद्धि) है।
