चण्डोनाम गणो देवि तेन चाराधितं पुरा । दिव्याब्दानां सहस्रं तु तेन चण्डेश्वरं स्मृतम्
caṇḍonāma gaṇo devi tena cārādhitaṃ purā | divyābdānāṃ sahasraṃ tu tena caṇḍeśvaraṃ smṛtam
દેવી, પૂર્વકાળે ‘ચંડ’ નામના એક ગણએ અહીં આરાધના કરી હતી. તેના પ્રભાવથી સહસ્ર દિવ્ય વર્ષો સુધી આ સ્થાન ‘ચંડેશ્વર’ નામે સ્મરાતું રહ્યું.
