ईचरौवाच । पुराऽसीस्त्वं महादेवि श्यामवर्णा मनस्विनी । नामार्थं च मया प्रोक्ता कालीति रहसि स्थिता
īcarauvāca | purā'sīstvaṃ mahādevi śyāmavarṇā manasvinī | nāmārthaṃ ca mayā proktā kālīti rahasi sthitā
ઈશ્વરે કહ્યું— હે મહાદેવી! પૂર્વે તું શ્યામવર્ણા અને દૃઢમનવાળી હતી. તું એકાંતમાં સ્થિત હતી ત્યારે મેં તારા નામનો અર્થ ‘કાળી’ એમ રહસ્યથી જણાવ્યું હતું।
