Bharata in Kaikeyi’s apartments: revelation of Daśaratha’s death and Rāma’s exile
कच्चिन्न ब्राह्मणधनं हृतं रामेण कस्यचित्।कच्चिन्नाढ्यो दरिद्रो वा तेनापापो विहिंसितः।।2.72.44।।
kaccin na brāhmaṇadhanaṃ hṛtaṃ rāmeṇa kasyacit | kaccin nāḍhyo daridro vā tenāpāpo vihiṃsitaḥ || 2.72.44 ||
શું રામે કોઈ બ્રાહ્મણનું ધન તો નથી હરણ કર્યું? શું તેના દ્વારા કોઈ નિર્દોષ—ધનવાન હોય કે ગરીબ—હિંસિત તો નથી થયો?
I hope Rama did not seize the wealth of any brahmin nor did any harm to an innocent person, whether rich or poor.
Dharma forbids exploitation and violence: taking a brāhmaṇa’s property and harming the innocent—rich or poor—are presented as clear markers of adharma.
Bharata, alarmed by Rāma’s sudden departure, probes whether any moral transgression could have led to such a calamity.
Bharata’s ethical discernment: he measures righteousness by protection of the vulnerable and by respect for sacred/social obligations.
