Celui qui mange ici la nourriture laissée après l’hôte obtient longue vie et prospérité. Mais le maître de maison qui mange en chassant l’hôte se souille de faute.
Skanda
Tirtha: Kāśī-kṣetra
Type: kshetra
Scene: Inside a Kāśī home: the guest is served first; afterward the family eats the remaining food with gratitude; contrasting vignette shows a householder eating while a guest is turned away, shadowed by moral stain.
Feed the guest first; personal enjoyment after hospitality becomes a source of blessing, while selfishness becomes sin.
The verse is part of Kāśīkhaṇḍa’s dharma-teaching associated with life in sacred Kāśī.
Atithi-pūjana through priority feeding, then partaking of atithiśeṣa (the remainder) as a dharmic order.
