जानासि चेत्त्वं शाकल्य मया दोषं कृतं वद । उक्तोऽथ काश्यपेनैवं शाकल्याख्यो महामुनिः । क्षणं ध्यात्वा बभाषे तं काश्यपं द्विजसत्तमाः
jānāsi cettvaṃ śākalya mayā doṣaṃ kṛtaṃ vada | ukto'tha kāśyapenaivaṃ śākalyākhyo mahāmuniḥ | kṣaṇaṃ dhyātvā babhāṣe taṃ kāśyapaṃ dvijasattamāḥ
«Si tu le sais, ô Śākalya, dis-moi quelle faute j’ai commise.» Ainsi interpellé par Kāśyapa, le grand sage nommé Śākalya réfléchit un instant, puis parla à Kāśyapa, le meilleur des deux-fois-nés.
