ब्राह्मणान्यः समाहूय दास्यामीति धनादिकम् । पश्चान्नास्तीति यो ब्रूते ब्रह्महा सोपि कीर्तितः
brāhmaṇānyaḥ samāhūya dāsyāmīti dhanādikam | paścānnāstīti yo brūte brahmahā sopi kīrtitaḥ
Celui qui convoque des brāhmaṇas en disant : « Je donnerai des richesses et autres dons », puis déclare ensuite : « Il n’y a rien », est lui aussi proclamé meurtrier d’un brāhmaṇa.
Sūta (Lomaharṣaṇa)
Scene: A householder respectfully summons brāhmaṇas with folded hands and promised gifts; later he turns away empty-handed, brāhmaṇas departing disappointed; a sage/dharma figure witnesses, indicating the gravity of deceit.
Deceit in the name of charity is treated as a grave moral collapse; dharma requires truthfulness and integrity in dāna.
