अतः पतिव्रतायास्त्वं शापं भुंक्ष्व यथोल्बणम् । अद्यप्रभृति नारीषु यदा त्वमपि संगतः । तदा मृतिस्तवेत्युक्त्वा विवेश ज्वलनं सती
ataḥ pativratāyāstvaṃ śāpaṃ bhuṃkṣva yatholbaṇam | adyaprabhṛti nārīṣu yadā tvamapi saṃgataḥ | tadā mṛtistavetyuktvā viveśa jvalanaṃ satī
«Ainsi, par la fidélité de pativratā qui est la mienne, subis une malédiction aussi terrible qu’elle le doit. Dès ce jour, chaque fois que tu t’uniras à une femme, la mort sera tienne.» Ayant parlé ainsi, la femme vertueuse entra dans le feu.
