Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Sthala Purana: Not tied to a specific Jyotirliṅga; the distinctive feature is invoking Dakṣiṇāmūrti (Śiva as Guru) while offering to the liṅga, emphasizing grace-through-teaching.
Significance: Frames liṅga worship as a path to liberating knowledge (jñāna) through the Guru-form of Śiva; supports the Siddhānta emphasis that Śiva’s anugraha removes pāśa (bondage).
Mantra: śivāya (as given: “(Obeisance) to Śiva.”; typically within ‘oṃ namaḥ śivāya’)
Type: panchakshara
Role: teaching
Offering: naivedya
It teaches that worship becomes spiritually effective when offerings are made with śaraṇāgati (taking refuge) in Śiva as Dakṣiṇāmūrti—the inner Guru—so the act is not mere ritual but a movement toward grace and liberation.
The Liṅga is the accessible saguna focus through which the devotee serves Śiva with upacāras (offerings). By invoking Dakṣiṇāmūrti, the worship points beyond form toward Śiva as the illuminating consciousness that grants jñāna.
Offer the collected upacāras to the Śiva-liṅga while repeating the Śiva-mantra (“śivāya”, commonly within the Pañcākṣarī ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya’) and mentally abide in Dakṣiṇāmūrti as the guiding presence.
