Sthala Purana: General āgamic/purāṇic ritual principle: after āvāhana (invocation) comes udvāsana (ritual dismissal), returning the invoked presence to its transcendent station; the consecrated maṇḍala and implements are then offered to the guru as dakṣiṇā/uttarāṅga.

Significance: Highlights the guru as the living conduit of Śiva’s presence; offering the maṇḍala/implements symbolizes surrender of ritual merit and instruments to the lineage.

FAQs

It teaches that worship is completed not only by invocation but also by proper udvāsana (peaceful dismissal) and by honoring the Guru—affirming the Shaiva Siddhanta emphasis that Śiva’s grace is approached through right practice and reverence to the preceptor.

In Saguna worship of Śiva (often as the Liṅga), the deity is invoked into the worship-seat and surrounded by āvaraṇas (subsidiary circles). This verse instructs that after offerings, the invoked presence is respectfully concluded, maintaining sanctity and continuity of the ritual order.

A clear ritual takeaway is udvāsana after pūjā and the offering of the maṇḍala and worship materials to the Guru (guru-dakṣiṇā), reinforcing disciplined completion of mantra-japa and pūjā rather than abrupt cessation.
