The Procedure of Āvaraṇa (Enclosure) Worship
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Sthala Purana: Not a site-specific (sthala) passage; it states a general siddhānta: bhakti to Śiva is the indispensable means for attaining spiritual fruit (phala).
Significance: Frames pilgrimage/temple worship as fruitful only when suffused with bhakti; mere external acts without inner participation are declared fruitless.
Offering: pushpa
It asserts that sincere bhakti is the decisive means for spiritual fruit—without entering into devoted worship of Śiva, other efforts do not yield the intended liberating result.
It emphasizes archanā (reverential worship) done with devotion—whether directed to the Śiva-liṅga or to Śiva’s saguna form—because inner bhakti is what makes the outward act spiritually fruitful.
Make daily Śiva-archanā the priority and perform it with bhakti—such as offering water and bilva leaves while mentally repeating the Pañcākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") as a focused devotional practice.
