Shiva Purana — Vayaviya Samhita, Shloka 42

शिवसंस्कार-दीक्षानिरूपणम् (Śivasaṃskāra and the Typology of Dīkṣā)

सर्वोपायविधिज्ञो ऽपि तत्त्वहीनस्तु निष्फलः । यस्यानुभवपर्यंता बुद्धिस्तत्त्वे प्रवर्तते

sarvopāyavidhijño 'pi tattvahīnastu niṣphalaḥ | yasyānubhavaparyaṃtā buddhistattve pravartate

Même si l’on connaît tous les moyens et toutes les procédures, celui qui est dépourvu de Tattva (principe véritable) demeure sans fruit. Seul celui dont l’intelligence s’engage dans la Réalité jusqu’à l’expérience directe chemine vraiment dans le Tattva.

It teaches that mere technical mastery of spiritual methods is insufficient; in Shaiva Siddhanta, liberation requires tattva-jñāna that ripens into anubhava—direct realization of Pati (Shiva) beyond Pāśa (bondage).

Linga/Saguna worship is a powerful upāya, but it becomes truly fruitful when it leads beyond external correctness to inner recognition of Shiva-tattva—devotion and discernment culminating in direct experience.

Prioritize practice that matures into inner realization: steady japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with dhyāna on Shiva, supported by disciplined Shaiva observances (e.g., bhasma/tripundra and rudrākṣa) as aids rather than ends.
