Ravana Enters Council; Rama’s Arrow-Storm Destroys the Rakshasa Host
प्रविष्टंतुतदारामंमेघास्सूर्यमिवाम्बरे ।नाथिजग्मुर्महाघोरानिर्दहन्तंशराग्निना ।।।।
praviṣṭaṃ tu tadā rāmaṃ meghāḥ sūryam ivāmbare |
nādhijagmur mahāghorā nirdahantaṃ śarāgninā ||
Quand Rāma entra alors, les rākṣasas les plus effroyables ne purent l’atteindre, comme les nuées ne peuvent s’approcher du soleil dans le ciel, tandis qu’il les consumait par le feu de ses flèches.
Ravana, endowed with mighty prowess, shrunken on account of his son, greeting all the army chiefs with folded hands spoke as follows.
Dharma here is protective justice: Rāma’s force is portrayed as purifying and restraining adharma in the battlefield, preventing the violent aggressors from gaining advantage.
Rāma charges into the rākṣasa formations and overwhelms them; the enemy cannot even approach him as he strikes them down with arrows.
Vīrya (valor) and tejas (radiant power)—a steadiness that makes him unassailable, like the sun against clouds.
